Have you ever wanted to bring the night sky to your school? The Spartanburg Science Center is home to a StarLab inflatable planetarium that travels around to schools and other events. Our StarLab shows students the constellations, the planets, moon phases, and more. Each StarLab presentation lasts 30 minutes and can accommodate 25 students at a time.

What is it?

StarLab is a large inflatable dome with a projector inside that shows different night sky variations on the ceiling of the dome. You must have a large area in which we can set the StarLab up. The dome is 12 feet wide and 12 feet high. We recommend a gym or large classroom with empty floor space. The setup cost is $150 which includes your first 30 minute lesson for 25 students. All additional sessions will be $75 per 30 minutes for 25 students.

How it Works:

Staff will arrive 30 minute before your start time to set up the dome and get the projections ready. When it is time to start, your students will file into the StarLab and sit around the inside edge of the dome. We will dim the lights from inside the dome and the night sky will be projected on the ceiling. Staff members will talk about what is being projected on the ceiling of the dome and answer any questions that your students may have. Once the session is over in 30 minutes, we will bring the lights back up and the students will file back out of the StarLab.
