Spartanburg Science Center is where curiosity gets its hands dirty. We’re home to Spartanburg County’s only public collection of exotic animals with around 40 species and over 100 animals, including reptiles, amphibians, fish, and yes, a young alligator. Wander through hands-on exhibits built for exploring, then step into our Fossil Room for a close-up look at bones, skulls, rocks and minerals from around the world.
And we don’t stop at our front door. Through our outreach programs, we bring science straight to classrooms across Spartanburg County and beyond.
Our Mission: We excite and engage students in STEM exploration

RECENT Reviews
“We had the BEST time at the Spartanburg Science Center today. Today was our last day of our homeschool year so I wanted to find a fun inexpensive field trip to end our year with some learning fun and the Spartanburg Science Center DID NOT disappoint! My kids LOVED it! And the staff was so helpful, kind and informative. Josh especially took a lot of time with my kids and shared his wealth of knowledge with them! Highly highly recommend!” – Jessica R.
“Lots to see in their 3 rooms and hall area. Some live animals & lots of fossils! Many hands-on activities for kids. This is a SMALL, affordable museum. 2 hours is about right time for kids. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We had fun!” – Sharon C.
“The Science Center is such a gem of Spartanburg, I highly recommend you check it out! The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate, and love teaching others about all the cool things they’ve learned over the years. There are three main rooms, one with fossils and taxidermy animals many of which you can touch, the second with physics and technology exhibits and games, and the third has live animals including snakes, turtles, and an alligator! It’s not a huge space but there’s so much to see. I had a wonderful time and am so glad I stopped by. Thank you!” – Matt
